When a co-op begins to organize, one of its first tasks is to form a Steering Committee, responsible for providing the direction and people power needed to organize and open a cooperatively owned grocery store.
One of the main responsibilities of the Steering Committee is to file incorporation paperwork and create the organizational structure of the co-op.
Now that we have incorporated (as a cooperative), an official Board of Directors has been elected.
Laura Enger and her husband Sig Enger were raised in Farmer City and live just outside of the city currently. Laura has a passion for Agriculture and supporting local business. She was active in 4-H and FFA in her past and studied Agribusiness at the University of Illinois. Laura was the initiator in the idea of a locally sourced food store for the Farmer City area and networked to obtain support and guidance of leading rural grocery businesspeople and an engaged steering committee. Laura believes you should “bloom where you are planted” and foresees a very impactful store in our future.
Chris Crider and his family reside in the Farmer City area and look forward to helping grow Farmer City by helping develop the community grocery store.
Curt Homann is a lifelong resident of Farmer City where he and his wife raised three children. Service to the Community has always been a passion for Curt as he has served in many roles including President of the Farmer City Fair Association, Chair of the DeWitt County Regional Planning Commission, Blue Ridge School Board, and Farmer City Chamber of Commerce Board. He has served in many other volunteer roles throughout the area at festivals, events, coaching, and other important community service needs. Curt is a graduate of the University of Illinois-Urbana with a degree in Finance and is currently working towards his Master’s of Business Administration through the University of Illinois-Springfield. He serves as DeWitt County’s Economic Development Director and as the Foundation Director for Warner Hospital and Health Services Foundation. His roles allow him to help develop and assist great businesses. He is excited to be a part of the Farm to City Harvest Store and in bringing a food source to Farmer City.
Kayla Maxwell is a life long resident of Farmer City & along with her husband, Kevin, raised three children here. She has been a member of several organizations & involved in fundraising & event planning. Kayla hopes her degree in Community Health Education & experience in business & retail will be beneficial to the Farm to City Harvest Store project.
Shanna Cheatham has been a resident in Farmer City since May of 2021. She is the President of Farmer City Forward, a group of progressives in the city who desire to help the town grow and flourish into what we know it can be. Shanna is so excited for the Harvest Store! This is a huge step in the right direction and joined the steering committee because she wanted a front row seat to see this vision come to life.
Susan Ryan loves local food and her Farmer City community. She’s a life-long gardener enjoying canning and cooking for family and friends. Susan has worked with several non-profit organizations and currently enjoys serving as the Farmer City Genealogical & Historical Society Mirror Quarterly editor and working with the Farmer City Museum.
